About

Sue McCreery, Writer, AustraliaSusan McCreery lives in Thirroul (where DH Lawrence wrote Kangaroo in 1922), on the south coast of NSW, with her two sons, Scotti and Alec.

She studied BA (Communications) at the University of Technology (when it was the Institute of Technology). During her student years she wrote short stories, some of which were published in the student magazine.

Susan’s working life has seen her as a nursing assistant; laminating signs in a factory; fronting game stalls at Luna Park; waitressing in pancake parlours; in Greece teaching English and picking olives; managing youth hostels; teaching ESL; tutoring children in reading and spelling; and working as an editorial assistant. She also had a stint in amateur theatre.

Throughout these ‘interesting times’, her writing continued to bubble away quietly, but it wasn’t until late 2004 that she took stock of the years lived, the years left, and knuckled down to the serious commitment of getting her writing ‘heard’.

Susan has also built up a successful freelance proofreading business, working on all manner of publications from poetry collections and novels to university textbooks, cookbooks and magazines.
